Glen Hansard – the Irish singer-songwriter behind ‘Once,’ as well as the Swell Season and the Frames – has announced he will join former Songs: Ohia members Jeff Panall, Jennie Benford, Dan Sullivan and Rob Sullivan on an upcoming tribute EP to Jason Molina. Molina, who fronted both Songs: Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co., passed away in 2013.

Today (Jan. 27), Hansard and company have unveiled their rendition of Song: Ohia’s ‘Being In Love,’ which will appear on the forthcoming EP, ‘It Was a Triumph We Once Proposed … Songs of Jason Molina.’ Take a listen below:

“Jason Molina was a hero and a friend,” Hansard wrote in a statement. “I wrote him my first fan letter, I always loved his music and singing these songs is the only way to make sense of losing him.”

Hansard recorded a split 7-inch with Songs: Ohia in 2000, which featured Songs: Ohia’s ‘Fade Street’ backed with Hansard’s ‘A Caution to the Birds.’

‘It Was a Triumph We Once Proposed … Songs of Jason Molina’ is slated for a March 17 release via Overcoat Recordings. Proceeds from the record will go to charity.
