The much-heralded film Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) walked away with the Oscar for Best Picture at this year's Academy Awards. Following that success, the original soundtrack from the film is finally being issued on vinyl as a deluxe double-LP on April 7.

Alejandro G. Iñárritu's film features a unique drum score composed by jazzman Antonio Sanchez. The vinyl edition will also include the selection of classical music used in the film by such composers as John Adams and Gustav Mahler. This deluxe edition from Milan Records will be pressed on 180-gram black vinyl and will also include a download card for all the music.

The distinct music plays a major part of the feel of the award-winning movie. Sanchez was specifically chosen by Iñárritu and sound designer Martín Hernández, who thought the use of percussion would take the film’s tension up a notch, giving them greater flexibility with pacing.

This was Sanchez's first time working on a film score. “Alejandro basically said, ‘I’m thinking for my next movie, the whole score will be just drums. What are you thinking, are you in?’" Sanchez told Entertainment Weekly. "I never saw anything that could give me a reference of what that would be like, so that was nerve-wracking.”
