With their highly anticipated sophomore album Sound & Color approaching its April release, Alabama Shakes took their blues-ridden soulful rock to the set of Saturday Night Live this past weekend (Feb. 28). The band performed two new songs, "Don't Wanna Fight" and "Gimme All Your Love," as the musical guests on this week's episode, which was hosted by Dakota Johnson. You can watch their performances below.

Brittany Howard's glowing earrings portrayed an image of Prince, indicating her personal respect for the artist, who no doubt influenced some of the new album's sound. "We took our time to write this record, and I'm really glad we did," said Howard. "We were able to sit down and think about what's exciting to us. This record is full of genre-bending songs."

The second track the band performed, "Gimme All Your Love," showcased Howard's singing prowess. You can actually feel the blues penetrating your soul.

Sound & Color will serve as the follow-up to 2012's infectious Boys & Girls, which was responsible for putting them on the map in a big way (they had also performed two songs on SNL in support of that disc). The 12-track LP is due out on April 20 via ATO records.
