Alabama Shakes appeared last night on 'Saturday Night Live,' where they performed two songs -- 'Hold On' from their 2012 debut album 'Boys & Girls' and 'Always Alright,' which can be found on the soundtrack to the movie 'Silver Linings Playbook.'

The band, which comes from the small town of Athens, Ala., were one of 2012's breakthrough groups. Playing a mix of indie, blues, garage, R&B and southern rock, Alabama Shakes absolutely kill it onstage, where frontwoman Brittany Howard commands like a pro.

'Boys & Girls' debuted in the Top 10 last year and helped score the band three recent Grammy nominations, for Best New Artist, Best Rock Performance and Best Recording Package. They didn't win anything, but they're still one of our favorite new bands. They brought along their touring keyboardist for the 'SNL' gig, and he gave the songs even fuller and warmer tones than those found on record.
