The London home in which Amy Winehouse‘s body was discovered when she died in July 2011 at the age of 27 has sold at auction for $3.2 million, reports the BBC. The semi-detached Camden Square property went under the hammer on Monday (Dec. 3) at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) headquarters in the Piccadilly section of London.

The house previously failed to sell after being put on the market by Amy’s family in May for $4.2 million. ”I think they are pleased they have drawn a line under it,” auctioneer Chris McHugh says of the family’s reaction. “They did have it on the market but they didn’t get the result for them.”

No mention of the property’s previous tenant was officially disclosed in the auction catalog, but McHugh said that ”the word got out,” spawning a bidding war between five interested parties. Bidding started at $2.7 million and quickly surpassed the $2.9 million listed guide price for the three-bedroom, 2,500-square-foot house, which contains a gym and music room.

Winehouse’s family had hoped to use the property as a headquarters for the foundation established in her name after her death, but the attention given to the house by her fans made it unfeasible.
