Banned Music Videos

R.E.M. Pop Song '89 No Doubt Looking Hot M.I.A. Born Free

Since the birth of MTV, music videos have drawn criticism for their violent, sexual and otherwise offensive content. Most of the time, complaints fall on deaf ears, but every now and then, a video is actually banned from the airwaves, lest it pollute the minds of impressionable youth. In a sense, bans are badges of honor — rock ‘n’ roll is about rebellion and challenging norms — and with that in mind, we’ve teamed up with our friends at Loudwire and Ultimate Classic Rock to celebrate our favorite Banned Music Videos. For a variety of reasons — nudity, gunplay, drug use, racial insensitivity — the following clips were deemed unsuitable for mass consumption. Watch at your own risk.
