Beastie Boys Mural Commemorates 25th Anniversary of ‘Paul’s Boutique’

It’s been a quarter of a century since the Beastie Boys released their landmark second album, ‘Paul’s Boutique,’ and to commemorate the milestone, Brooklyn-based artist Danielle Mastrion painted a mural of the trio over the weekend at the New York City street corner depicted on the album’s cover.

According to a report by EV Grieve and a photo by Shirley Dluginski, the mural is at the corner of Rivington and Ludlow in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, and painted on the outside of sandwich shop Wolfnights, which used to be Lee’s Sportwear.

Lee’s Sportwear was immortalized by the Beastie Boys on the artwork for the 1989 classic album:

The mural was spearheaded by LeRoy McCarthy, the same man who also unsuccessfully launched a petition to rename the intersection ‘Beastie Boys Square.’
