Watch Beck Cover Michael Jackson on Jimmy Kimmel’s Stage
Beck showed up on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ last week and performed ‘Blue Moon,’ the same song he’s been performing all over the place lately. (The other late-night Jimmy, Fallon, hosted a performance, as did ‘Saturday Night Live.’)
But apparently Kimmel’s audience that night was treated to an after-show set by Beck and his band. And as you can see by the above video, which was shot by a giggling fan, Beck lightened up a little and had a bit more fun than he did with his new folk-leaning song from the ‘Morning Phase’ album.
First they busted out a cover of Michael Jackson‘s eternal ‘Billie Jean,’ which was about as funky as you’d expect from a bunch of white guys from Los Angeles who are used to backing a wiseass dude who made his name rapping nonsense over junkyard rhythms. But it’s certainly passable.
Then after they mess up ‘Billie Jean”s chorus — Beck even wants to go back and try it again — they move into ‘Sissyneck’ from his 1996 masterpiece ‘Odelay.’ It’s a pretty seamless transition, considering the whole thing almost spiraled out of control a minute or so earlier.
You can watch the video above. And here’s Beck performing ‘Blue Moon’ on Kimmel’s show last week, in case you’re in the mood for something a little more mellow.
