Halifax, Canada will see a variety of music artists come their way when the Summersonic music festival returns to the city in September 2012 after a four year absence. Montreal indie-pop darlings Stars, singer-songwriter (and recently single) Ben Harper, Chicago punk rockers Rise Against and more will be on hand for the three-day event.

Plenty of other acts will share the lineup with the artists mentioned above, including Juno-winning rapper K'Naan, California punk legends the Vandals, singer-songwriters Matt Andersen and Martin Sexton, Bahamas and more. Summersonic 2012 takes place September 7-9 at the Citadel Hill Garrison Grounds in Halifax.

Single day tickets start at $30 for early bird specials, and three-day passes will be available for $70 before increasing to $85 on July 20. The full Summersonic lineup and tickets details can be found here.

As the Chronicle Herald explains, Summersonic started up in 2008 as an intimate outdoor music festival in downtown Halifax. The inaugural event featured the Black Keys before they dominated the rock world, the Dallas Green-led outfit City and Colour, Tokyo Police Club and others. Stars are Summersonic veterans themselves, as they appeared during the first installment.

Speaking of Stars, the band revealed the cover art for their upcoming album, 'The North,' and debuted the first single, 'The Theory of Relativity.' 'The North' will be released on  September 4 through ATO Records, just in time to stock their merch booth at Summersonic.
