Best Debut Album – 2014 Fan Choice Awards

It’s tough for new artists to compete with established acts. Big-name performers are able to create massive marketing campaigns for their upcoming releases — we’re looking at you, Arcade Fire — and if you’re a super-ultra-mega star like Beyonce, you can scrap the promotion altogether and people will still flock to iTunes in droves to download your latest LP. For up-and-comers, on the other hand, it takes great songs and a certain amount of serendipity to grab the public’s attention, and as part of our 2014 Fan Choice Awards, we’re celebrating some of the debut albums that managed to make an impression over the past year.

Take a look at our nominees for the Best Debut Album of 2013 — a diverse bunch that runs the gamut from synth-pop sensation Sky Ferreira to scrappy U.K. rockers Palma Violets, no to mention breakout acts like Haim and Lorde — and vote for your fave newbie. You’re allowed to cast a ballot once per hour — just make sure to submit your picks before voting ends at 10AM on Feb. 11.
