Last night (April 28) in Glendale, Calif., a veritable alternative all-star team performed songs from Big Star's landmark 1978 album, Third.

Among those who took part in the festivities: Jeff Tweedy and Pat Sansone of Wilco, Mike Mills of R.E.M., Ira Kaplan of Yo La Tengo, Jessica Pratt, Kronos Quartet and Robyn Hitchcock.

Tweedy covered "Kizza Me" and "Back of My Car"; Mills played on “September Gurls"; Stephens, Sansone and Tweedy collaborated on “When My Baby’s Beside Me”; Kaplan covered “The EMI Song” and “Take Care”; and Pratt contributed to “Big Black Car” and “Femme Fatale”.

The concert was filmed for an upcoming DVD and CD release slated to drop next spring. Meanwhile, check out some of the fan-recorded footage below.
