Bob Mould Gets Some PR Help From the Decemberists’ Colin Meloy in Hilarious New Video
Bob Mould is back in action and sounding better than ever on his new album, 'Beauty & Ruin.' His sense of humor is blooming as well. In a new video from Funny or Die, Mould pairs up with the Decemberists' Colin Meloy to have some fun with the 2014 way of networking the music business.
"The days of just traveling around in a van and playing shows is over," Meloy tells Mould in the video, which you can watch above. "These days, you gotta communicate with the people, you gotta barrage them with constant all-caps updates about your albums and your shows. You gotta tweet it, you gotta Instagram it, you gotta tumble it, you gotta blorph it."
What is "blorphing," you ask? According to Meloy, it's a new app created by the Decemberists that is going to "change the way thinking people think about thinking."
It's a wonderful and hilarious poke at the music industry, promotion and social-media overkill. In the end, it all gives way to Mould's great new song 'I Don't Know You Anymore,' which recalls both Husker Du and Sugar in its overwhelming greatness.
As the video plays out, Mould and friends set out to prove the old-fashioned way still works. And as they rock out in front of a Record Store Day backdrop, you'll believe that it can. Either way, it's great to have Mould back again.
