Bonnaroo 2013 Lineup Announced: Paul McCartney, Mumford and Sons, Bjork, Wilco + More To Perform
Mumford and Sons, Paul McCartney, Bjork, Wilco and Tom Petty are among the headliners confirmed for the 2013 edition of the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, which will take place June 13-16 in Manchester, Tenn. The lineup was announced today (Feb. 19) during a special hour-long live webcast called B.L.A.M. (Bonnaroo Line-up Announcement Mega-thon) hosted by none other than “Weird Al” Yankovic.
Other top-billed performers include the National, the Lumineers, Animal Collective, David Byrne & St. Vincent, Of Monsters and Men, Beach House, Cat Power and Grizzly Bear. My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James will appear twice, performing a solo set and hosting the annual Superjam, this year with appearances from John Oates and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The acts were revealed via a variety of live in-studio stunts — including a pie-eating contest, a pinata and interactive games with live callers — interspersed with the occasional reading off of a bunch of names by special guests, including Jimmy Fallon.
Mumford and Sons also made a brief appearance during the show, discussing their impending headlining set. “Do we get paid,” asked one of the Mumfords who isn’t Marcus Mumford.” “I think that’s why we’re playing,” deadpanned Marcus back.
Portugal. The Man, who also are appearing at this year’s festival, stopped by to perform their tune ‘So American’ during the special, with Weird Al sitting in on accordion. Later, Portugal. The Man played the show off the air, performing a cover of Green Day’s ‘American Idiot,’ with Weird Al singing his ‘Canadian Idiot’ on top.
