Back in February, Bonnie Raitt released Dig in Deep. Last night (Aug. 29), she stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to perform one of its tracks, a cover of INXS’ smash hit, “Need You Tonight,” which you can watch above.

She replaces the then-modern electronic beats with a hard-hitting blues-rock groove, with George Marinelli contributing some dirty rhythm guitar. Raitt, of course, contributes her trademark slide guitar, and she, Marinelli and organist Mike Finnegan trade brief solos.

Released on 1987’s Kick, “Need You Tonight” was INXS’ only No. 1 single, staying there for one week in early 1988. It was bolstered by a video that paired it with another Kick song, “Meditate,” that paid tribute to Bob Dylan’s “Subterranean Homesick Blues.” Kick contained three other Top 10 singles — “New Sensation,” “Devil Inside” and the ballad “Never Tear Us Apart” — and has sold six million copies in the U.S. But on Nov. 22, 1997, seven months after the release of Elegantly Wasted, singer Michael Hutchence was found dead in a hotel room in Sydney, Australia. He hanged himself with his belt.

Dig In Deep is Raitt’s 17th studio album in a career that stretches all the way back to 1971, with her biggest hit coming in 1989 with the Grammy-winning Nick of Time, which saw her rebound from addiction and declining sales. Produced mostly by Raitt -- Joe Henry took control for his song "You've Changed My Mind" -- Dig in Deep debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard 200. In addition to her re-working of “Need You Tonight,” it features five songs written or co-written by Raitt and a take on another song from 1987, Los Lobos’ “Shakin’ Shakin’ Shakes.”
