Bonnie Tyler Performs ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ Aboard Ship as the Song Hits No. 1 Again

As the moon obscured the sun yesterday, Bonnie Tyler‘s ’80s hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart” obscured just about everything else. The singer performed the 1983 tune aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship during the event, while the song sailed to No. 1 on iTunes’ chart.

You can watch the performance, which she sang aboard the Oasis of the Seas while backed by the Joe Jonas-fronted DNCE, above.

The cruise ship had already been sold out, and it wasn’t until last week that passengers discovered Tyler would perform as they cruised through the path of totality. “Fabulous for me to work with this young, gorgeous band, and they did a fabulous version of ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart.’ It was really awesome,” Tyler, who led a sing-along, told Time.

“With the eclipse happening, performing this iconic song with a legend, our new friend, Bonnie, it was a dream come true,” Jonas added. “The only one way to sum it up is: ‘Turn around…'”

Every now and then I get a little bit lonely,” Tyler responded.

More than three decades ago, the song sat in the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100. NME reported that digital sales of Tyler’s biggest hit increased more than 500 percent leading up to the eclipse. It received 12,000 downloads in the U.S. for the week ending Aug. 20, compared to just 2,000 the week prior. It replaced “Despacito,” the Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee hit that features Justin Bieber, atop iTunes’ chart. Time noted streaming of the song on Spotify saw a 3,000 percent increase in the hours leading up to the eclipse.

She wasn’t the only artist to perform during the eclipse. Ozzy Osbourne performed “Bark at the Moon” at the Moonstock Festival.
