Later this year, Charlotte-based funk rockers Bubonik Funk will celebrate the release of their new record, Oddfish, Vol. 1. To give fans a taste of what to expect, Diffuser is thrilled to premiere album cut “Carolina Phase” today (April 22) -- check it out in the audio player below.

“It’s an ode to your own personal Shangri La, one that removes the negative burdens of mental, physical or financial struggle, faulted and oppressive mentalities or individuals that aren’t healthy entities in your life,” the band explains about the track. “We wanted to write a song that when the chorus hit, you could really feel the joy of an individual discovering themselves ... and I think that’s very real in ‘Carolina Phase.’”

They go on, “We viewed ‘Carolina Phase’ as a journey many people experience, coated in metaphor about rising from the ashes as an improved human being. Moving from the steady groove of the song into the extended, undulating chorus, the listener can really feel the transformative power of the song as it moves your soul to a higher place.”

Bubonik Funk have already released four self-produced albums and played hundreds of gigs, and we can’t wait to see what they have up their sleeves with Oddfish, Vol. 1; they’re sure to take no prisoners with their staggering brand of funky rock and roll.
