Cat Power Issues New Tune ‘Cherokee’ With Remix, Maps Out 2012 Tour

It’s been a long time since we’ve been treated to a new album from Cat Power — four years since the all-covers album ‘Jukebox’ album dropped, a long half-dozen years since the originals-only ‘The Greatest’ — so fans of Chan Marshall can be forgiven for being impatient for the Aug. 31 arrival of ‘Sun.’
We got our first taste of things to come in the form of a tune called ‘Ruin‘ last month, and now here’s another taste, with the surprisingly upbeat, almost New Wave-ish ’Cherokee.’
If that’s not enough to tide you over, the song also comes in remix form, as electronic artist Nicolas Jaar turns in a lush, restrained reworking of the tune. Check them both out below.
Meanwhile, Cat Power will support ‘Sun’ with a North American fall tour that kicks off on Oct. 13 down in Mexico City and will run through a Nov. 8 gig in Los Angeles.
