It's mid-June, the year's halfway point, and with that comes the inevitable Best Songs of 2013 So Far list. This 10-song tally was a real bear to compile, and that's because 2013 has been a great year for music.

Rolling southern gusts and flash showers peeling back into rainbows welcomed concertgoers Thursday (June 13) to the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. The winds of fate also blew as the news of Saturday headliner Mumford & Sons' completely understandable cancellation began making the rounds.
Duxbury, Mass., rockers Dead Boots have a new video for their catchy tune ‘Saturdays,' and Diffuser.fm is wicked stoked to have the exclusive premiere. Watch the feelgood clip above and follow the fellas as they enjoy a carefree weekend afternoon of eating ice cream, window shopping, practicing golf and goofing off in a pizza joint.
Earlier this week, we learned that Mumford and Sons bassist Ted Dwane suffered from a blood clot in his brain, causing him to undergo emergency surgery. As a result, the band has been forced cancel their appearance at this weekend’s Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tenn.
Beginning next year, the Sasquatch! Music Festival will take place over two weekends. Unlike Austin City Limits and Coachella, which have also expanded to encompass two weekends, each weekend of Sasquatch! will feature a different lineup of bands and artists. The 2014 editions of the fest are set to run from May 23-25 and July 4-6 at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Wash.
The video game ‘Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag’ — the highly anticipated sequel to last year’s ‘Assassin's Creed 3’ — takes players on an exciting journey of land and naval exploration. The game is due out this fall, and its trailer features the haunting tune ‘Brennisteinn’ by Icelandic greats Sigur Ros.
The Replacements will reunite for Riot Fest shows in Toronto (Aug. 24-25), Chicago (Sept. 13-15) and Denver (Sept. 21-22), according to a press release that's sure to have fans of the legendary Minneapolis punk band scrambling to make summer travel plans. The group hasn't performed live in 22 years, but according to bassist Tommy Stinson, they never actually broke up. Last fall, Stinson and frontman Paul Westerberg reconvened in the studio for 'Songs for Slim,' an EP recorded to raise money for former Replacements guitarist Slim Dunlap, who suffered a stroke in 2012, and the old chemistry was apparently still there.
The sun has set on Mountain Jam 2013, but we left Hunter, N.Y., with four days of memories, a bag full of dirty clothes and -- most importantly -- a bunch of great photos. During the festival, we saw a number of big-name bands -- the Avett Brothers, the Lumineers, Deer Tick -- and discovered some new favorites, such as Elijah & the Moon and Roadkill Gospel Choir. We also took in some of the festival's legendary ambiance and made friends with some mud people. Scroll down and check out some of our favorite pictures from Mountain Jam 2013.
Since he was seven years old, there's only been one constant in John McCauley's life, and that's his favorite band: Nirvana. "Everything else changes," the Deer Tick frontman told us last weekend at Mountain Jam 2013, where he and his group played a raucous roots-punk set that included a cover of the 'Nevermind' classic 'Breed.' While Kurt Cobain might not be the most obvious influence on this Rhode Island-born Americana collective, the group plays country, folk and blues with a badass rock 'n' roll sensibility, and their Mountain Jam set also included a cover of the Replacements' classic 'Can't Hardly Wait.'
