Ray Manzarek, founding keyboardist for the Doors, died earlier today (May 20) at the RoMed Clinic in Rosenheim, Germany, according to a press release. The 74-year-old rock legend had been battling bile duct cancer, and he's said to have died with his wife, Dorothy, and two brothers by his side.

Sarah Kirsch, a prolific musician and fixture on the Bay Area punk rock scene since the mid-'80s, died Wednesday (Dec. 5) at the age of 42 after a battle with the genetic disease Fanconi Anemia. News of her death was announced yesterday on the Facebook page of Ebullition Records' Lisa Oglesby. Over the years, the label released albums by several of the many bands Kirsch played in.

Minders, Thermals Member Joel Burrows Dies

Sad news to report today as Joel Burrows, a fixture on the Portland, Ore., music scene and a former member of the Thermals, the Minders and several other local bands, has died, reports the Portland Mercury. Burrows was severely injured early last year when he was struck by a van while crossing the street. After spending months in the ICU, he recovered some and moved to an assisted-living facility for people with brain injuries.
