On Nov. 4, Chad Smith steps away from the Red Hot Chili Peppers to release 'The Process,' an album he put together with legendary bassist/producer Bill Laswell and pianist Jon Batiste. The album features other guests including Killah Priest of Wu-Tang Clan and Tunde Adebimpe on loan from TV On the Radio, who sings on the album's first single -- listen to 'Drop Away' below:

'Drop Away' checks in with a funk heavy, tribal groove; drums, bass and keyboards carry the load, decorated nicely by various percussion. Laswell, who has worked with everyone from Yoko Ono and Public Image Ltd. to Mick Jagger and Motorhead, locks in tight with Smith throughout.

'The Process' combines elements of jazz, funk, rock, hip-hop and world music into one bubbling stew -- "Avant-tribal-funk” is how Smith described it to Wondering Sound. The original concept of the album was to "score a film that had yet to be written, and would never be made" according to a press release.
