Shoulders slumped; gaze downcast: Can’t you just imagine the mopey yet beloved Charlie Brown muttering some of Morrissey’s most famous lines? (By way of speech bubble, of course). Likewise, doesn’t Morrissey’s entire catalog seem like one giant metaphor for kicking a football that’s been stolen out from underneath his feet?

Well, Oakland-based graphic designer, Lauren LoPrete, noticed the synergy between the two and combined them to great effect in her Tumblr, ‘This Charming Charlie.’

Inspired by a 1986 Smiths poster featuring the Charles Schulz-created character, LoPrete takes some of Morrissey’s most brooding lyrics and pairs them with the iconic Charlie Brown and all his friends: Lucy, Linus, Snoopy and the whole gang.

And apparently we’re not the only ones who love these perfectly pessimistic cartoons; Morrissey does, too. When asked to remove the Smiths and Morrissey lyrics from her Tumblr, LoPrete received this message from 'True to You,' a fan site approved and read by the iconic singer-songwriter:

“Morrissey would like to stress that he has not been consulted over any takedown request to remove the Tumblr blog named ‘This Charming Charlie’. Morrissey is represented by Warner-Chappell Publishing, and not Universal Music Publishing, (who have allegedly demanded that the lyrics be removed). Morrissey is delighted and flattered by the Peanuts comic strip with its use of Morrissey-Smiths lyrics, and he hopes that the strips remain.”
