Chris Cornell’s Funeral Features Eulogies From Soundgarden, Pearl Jam Members

Soundgarden star Chris Cornell‘s ashes were laid to rest today (May 26) during a private ceremony attended by his family, friends, and former bandmates. Members of Foo Fighters, Jane’s Addiction, Metallica and Nirvana were among those honoring his memory at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

You can see photos from the ceremony above. The singer took his own life last Monday after a concert in Detroit, Michigan, an action his family believes may have been influenced by him accidentally taking too much prescription medication.

According to the Associated Press, the service featured eulogies by Cornell’s Soundgarden bandmates Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron, as well as his Audioslave partner Tom Morello, Pearl Jam‘s Jeff Ament and actor James Brolin. Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington performed Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” at the ceremony.

Metallica’s James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, Dave Grohl, Pat Smear and Taylor Hawkins from Foo Fighters, Jane’s Addiction’s Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro, Grohl’s Nirvana bandmate Krist Novoselic, Audioslave’s Brad Wilk, Courtney Love and Joe Walsh were also among those in attendance.

Rolling Stone reports that the ceremony began with Cornell’s recent solo song “The Promise” and the Audioslave track “Like a Stone” being played on the cemetery’s speaker system, with his Temple of the Dog track “All Night Thing” used as a recessional.

The social media sites for Soundgarden, Audioslave, Temple of the Dog and Cornell’s solo career were all changed to feature the same black box and black and white photograph of the singer yesterday.
