As he prepares to perform at this year’s Folk Alliance International conference in Kansas City, Christopher Paul Stelling is also celebrating his signing to famed record label Anti-.

“You make your art and you put it out there,” he says in a statement issued by his new musical home. “When people listen, I hope they get that I care and that I’m trying. That it’s okay to be afraid, because fear is necessary for developing courage, and courage is necessary to face what we are up against.”

Stelling’s powerful words stem from a somewhat nomadic life that found him eventually settling in New York City. Throughout that time, he developed an incredible guitar style, creating melodies through his lightning fast finger-picking.

If you’re not familiar with Stelling’s sound -- one that is reminiscent of the great folksters and bluesmen of decades past -- watch a chilling, intimate performance in the video below:

Along with his Anti- signing, Stelling has shared his upcoming tour itinerary which will find him traveling to Tennessee after his stint in Kansas City, wrapping up in Easton, Pa., at the Mercantile Home on March 28.
