CMJ 2013: Morning Parade, Cub Sport, Half Moon Run + More Bring Their Out-Of-Town Sounds to New York City
CMJ takes place in New York City, so it's only natural the clubs and bars are filled each year with acts from the Big Apple. But festival attendees aren't only be treated to local sounds. Featuring groups from Sweden and Germany to New Zealand and Taiwan, CMJ has always showcased international talent, and on Wednesday (Oct. 16), the music from overseas was especially good.
Aussie quintet Cub Sport, who hail from Brisbane, played a standout set at the Judson Memorial Church early in the day during the KEXP showcase, while Sydney band the Preatures rocked their faces off a the Bowery Hotel at the School Night party. That soiree also featured Montreal's Half Moon Run and electric soul artist Mystery Skulls, who may only be from Los Angeles (by way of Dallas) but is an out-of-towner nonetheless.
At the Gatsby-esque venue called the Box, meanwhile, clothing maker Ben Sherman and the British Consulate of New York teamed up for a showcase introducing music fans and fashionistas to Glasgow's Prides, London-based Duologue and Morning Parade, who are based out of Essex.
