The woman who accused Conor Oberst of rape has issued an apology. After several months of public scrutiny, a period in which the Bright Eyes frontman counter-sued the woman, it seems that the ordeal may finally be behind him.

The accuser, Joanie Faircloth, issued a public apology today, claiming that her accusations were “100 percent false.” It reads:

The statements I made and repeated online and elsewhere over the past six months accusing Conor Oberst of raping me are 100% false. I made up those lies about him to get attention while I was going through a difficult period in my life and trying to cope with my son’s illness. I publicly retract my statements about Conor Oberst, and sincerely apologize to him, his family, and his fans for writing such awful things about him. I realize that my actions were wrong and could undermine the claims of actual sexual assault victims and for that I also apologize. I’m truly sorry for all the pain that I caused.

Here’s the notarized document:

According to Pitchfork, Oberst’s camp has been trying to reach Faircloth for the past seven months.

This is all started at the end of 2013, when Faircloth, posting anonymously on the website xoJane, claimed that Oberst had forced himself on her after a concert in 2003, when she was 16 years old.

Oberst counter-sued in February, and last week, it was reported that the accusations cost him a $200,000 record deal because of his suffered reputation. The 34-year-old singer-songwriter released his latest solo album, ‘Upside Down Mountain,’ in May, and sales haven’t been all that great.

Now that all this is hopefully behind him, let’s get back to listening to Oberst’s music, like ‘Zigzagging Toward the Light’ from his new album:
