Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl became a father for the third time on Aug. 1 when he and his wife Jordyn Blum welcomed their third daughter, Ophelia, into the world. However, less than a week after their daughter’s birth, Dave’s father, James Grohl, lost his battle with cancer. He passed away Aug. 6.

Grohl was still a little boy when his mother and father split, but Dave would still spend summers with his father in Ohio. James Grohl was a journalist for an Ohio newspaper before working for Senator Howard Taft. He was 75 when he died. See his full obituary at this location.

Meanwhile, Ophelia is Dave and Jordyn’s third daughter, joining older sisters Violet and Harper.

Dave has been busy in the time leading up to the birth of his daughter. He and the rest of the Foo Fighters have been working on their new album, ‘Sonic Highways,’ which will arrive on Nov. 10.
