David Bowie Teases Murky New Song ‘Lazarus’
We’re less than a month out from the release of David Bowie’s new album ★ (and the iconic English artist’s 69th birthday), and now, he has shared another preview of what’s to come.
Bowie has unveiled a trailer for Blackstar’s second single “Lazarus” today (Dec. 14); check out the 15-second excerpt at the top of the page. The song will premiere in full this Thursday on BBC 6 Music and NPR. It will then be available for digital download on Friday.
The song is the only track on the album that appears in the off-Broadway play of the same name, which was co-written by Bowie and Enda Walsh. The Lazarus cast -- including Dexter actor Michael C. Hall -- will perform the song on Thursday night’s episode of the Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The play debuted earlier this month and runs through Jan. 20.
Blackstar is out Jan. 8 via RCA/Columbia. It follows 2013’s The Next Day. Bowie has already shared the nearly 10-minute title track along with an accompanying short film.
