DirecTV 2013 Commercial – What’s the Song?

When you live in a shoe with a boisterous herd of children who are constantly fighting over the TV, is it possible to get a minute to yourself to watch some basketball? Thanks to DirecTV, it is. In fact, you can leave the commotion of the living room and hole yourself up in a secluded area — such as the bathroom — to watch the game in peace on your mobile device. In the background of the charming commercial is ‘The Winner Is’ by Denver-based gypsy-punk outfit DeVotchKa.

You might recognize the tune from the 2006 indie blockbuster ‘Little Miss Sunshine,’ starring Greg Kinnear, Steve Carell, Toni Collette, Alan Arkin and Abigail Breslin. DeVotchKa were recruited to score the film and contribute a number of songs to its soundtrack.

In addition to being featured in the DirecTV clip (watch below), ‘The Winner Is’ has been used in ads for the Dutch pension fund PGGM and the French energy company Suez. Their music has also surfaced in trailers for ‘Everything Is Illuminated’ and ‘Gears of War 2,’ as well as episodes of ‘Weeds' and ‘Everwood.’

DeVotchKa have a string of international tour dates lined up, including appearances at Babylon Soundgarden Festival, Bunbury Music Festival and Vancouver Folk Music Festival. Check out the full itinerary on their official website.
