Eddie Vedder Plays Surprise Bridge School Benefit Set, Opens for Guns N’ Roses

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder never thought he’d find himself opening for Guns N’ Roses, but this weekend at the 26th Annual Bridge School Benefit, he did just that. Vedder made a surprise appearance at the event on Saturday, Oct. 20, hitting the stage right before GN’R. That’s a rock ‘n’ roll moment that could stop the world from spinning on its axis, if only for a second. And it was all for a good cause.

The annual acoustic event, which Neil Young launched in order to raise funds for the Bridge School, a institution that helps children with disabilities overcome their impairments with technology, continued on Sunday.

Vedder’s set was short, consisting of just two songs: ‘Last Kiss’ and ‘Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town.’ But it was high impact, so what it lacked in length, it made up for in quality.

“This is the last place I thought I’d be when I woke up today, opening for Guns N’ Roses,” the singer mused before launching into his set.

While opening for Axl Rose and co. may or may not have been on Vedder’s bucket list, it was certainly a treat for benefit attendees and those watching the event online in real time — and now for everyone else, as the footage is widely circulating. It’s worth a look — this isn’t likely to happen again.
