Edward Sharpe – Stage Name Origins

Edward Sharpe is the nom de song of Alex Ebert (full name: Alexander Michael Tahquitz Ebert), former frontman of the electronica act Ima Robot and current singer in Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Ebert had a successful run with Ima Robot, but after several years of rock 'n' roll excess he had had enough and eventually was living in seclusion following a stint in rehab. During that time he took on the Edward Sharpe alter ego. "I do feel like I had lost my identity in general," he later told Sdnn.com. "Adopting another name helped me open up an avenue to get back."
