Listen to the New Song from Jack White and Elton John, ‘Two Fingers of Whiskey’

Listen as Jack White helps Elton John complete an improvised song featuring lyrics from Bernie Taupin for the upcoming American Epic: The Sessions film.

They recorded "Two Fingers of Whiskey" directly to wax as part of the documentary, which places contemporary artists in old-fashioned recording situations. John leads on piano in the above video, of course, while White accompanies him on guitar.

American Epic: The Sessions premieres on Tuesday (June 6) on PBS. The film's soundtrack – which also includes Beck, Nas, the Alabama Shakes, Willie Nelson, the late Merle Haggard, and others – follows in both compact disc and digital download formats on June 9, via Columbia. White's Third Man Records will issue a vinyl edition on June 16.

Taupin has worked with Elton John since the late '60s, forging a partnership that includes classic-era songs like "Rocket Man," "Levon" and "Bennie and the Jets" as well as more modern favorites like "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues" and "The One." They also collaborated on 2016's Wonderful Crazy Night, John's most recent studio project.

T-Bone Burnett produced Wonderful Crazy Night, and co-executive produced American Epic: The Sessions along with White and Robert Redford. Burnett produced 2010's The Union, which found John working with hero Leon Russell, and 2013's The Diving Board, as well. White's most recent studio effort was 2014's Lazaretto; Acoustic Recordings 1998–2016 followed last year, and included an unreleased White Stripes track called “City Lights.”
