'Epic,' the next film by Blue Sky Studios and 20th Century Fox Animation, won't be out until May 24, 2013. However, the trailer has already been released, and it features Snow Patrol's 'The Lightning Strike.'

The 3D computer-generated film stars Josh Hutcherson, Beyonce, Colin Farrell, Johnny Knoxville and Amanda Seyfried. Here is the synopsis from the movie's website:

EPIC is a 3D CG action-adventure comedy that reveals a hidden world unlike any other. From the creators of ICE AGE and RIO, EPIC tells the story of an ongoing battle deep in the forest between the forces of good and the forces of evil. When a teen age girl finds herself magically transported into this secret universe, she must band together with a rag-tag team of fun and whimsical characters in order to save their world…and ours.

"Fun and whimsical characters" notwithstanding, judging by the trailer, the combination of the oversized animals and the battles has the potential to scare the bejeezus out of children-- or at least make sure they'll never want to play outside ever again.

The film's potential seriousness is reinforced by the use of 'The Lightning Strike,' which appears on Snow Patrol's 2008 album, 'A Hundred Million Suns.' The song is a 16-minute suite in three parts. The trailer for 'Epic' uses the first movement, 'What if This Storm Ends?'
