Father John Misty was the musical guest on last night’s (Jan. 14) episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, where he played “Holy S---,” the penultimate track from last year’s I Love You, Honeybear.

Following eight tracks that dive headlong into trials of the heart, Josh Tillman nears the end of his sophomore effort with “Bored in the USA” and “Holy S---,” shifting his inward focus outward (a move Tillman says he hopes to continue on the album’s follow-up). It’s fitting then Tillman debuted “Bored in the USA” on The Late Show prior to David Letterman’s departure and returned with “Holy S---” after Colbert’s takeover. Check out the performance in the video at the top, and make sure to stay tuned for the thrashing breakdown circa the 2:15 mark.

Tillman will resume his North American tour at the end of March in Santa Ana, Calif. Along the way, he'll play this year's Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tenn., and Governors Ball in New York City. See his complete itinerary right here.
