The Flaming Lips have officially succeeded in their mission to break the Guinness World Record for most concerts performed in multiple cities in a 24-hour period. Wayne Coyne and his crew of merry pranksters rocked eight gigs in the allotted time, traveling from city to city via bus and besting rapper Jay-Z's previous mark of seven along the way.

The trek kicked off on Wednesday (June 27) at 6:30PM CT in Memphis, Tenn., and concluded at the same time on the following day in New Orleans, La. Coyne celebrated the feat with a press release full of his typical eccentric charm:

To be able to pick up this silly drinking book-- after all, Guinness is a beer-- this funny book that when I was growing up was a curiosity. To be published alongside the man who ate 22 pounds of his own boogers, beside the woman with the longest toenails or perhaps even to be published beside an individual who has had maybe 1000 cockroaches stuffed into their ears... that, to me, would be one of life's absurd joys.

The traveling festivities were streamed live as part of MTV's third annual O Music Awards, with viewers able to choose between three cameras on board the Lips' bus, each of the eight venues they performed in and behind-the-scenes in the control room. The shows helped the O Awards become MTV's most-watched digital event and even was trending topic on Twitter.

The Lips were joined by special guest performers at several stops, including Grace Potter, Neon Indian and classic rocker Jackson Browne. During their gig in Biloxi, Miss., they debuted a new song titled 'You Lust' with Phantogram, which you can watch below.

"When I was 16, this was the dream -- the great inclusive adventure of touring," Coyne told reporters during a press conference held on the bus. "Honestly, I don't think a lot of artists now would look very good doing this."
