Foals are set to release their next studio album, What Went Down, on Aug. 28 via Warner Bros., and in preparation, the band has premiered the album's second single, the refreshing "Mountain at My Gates," which you can listen to below. (The first song Foals premiered was the album's title track.)

The grand, arena-caliber track allows the work of producer James Ford, who has worked with Arctic Monkeys and Florence + the Machine, shine through. The dance-inspired anthem is flooded with powerful singalong choruses, and there is enough scattered trackwork to build some character, primarily toward the end of the song.

In an interview with NME, frontman Yanni Philippakis commented on the origin of the track, stating, "I'd recorded the beginning riff on my phone ages ago ... at the beginning it had a baggy feel, but became less so with more work. The central image -- 'I see a mountain at my gates' -- was from me getting more interested in seeing what would come out lyrically where there wasn't a pre-conceived idea. Normally I write voraciously in books and journals, then harvest a lot of that for the record. This, though, came out instantaneously in the room."

What Went Down will serve as the band's follow-up to their 2013 full-length, Holy Fire. Pre-orders are currently available at the band’s website.
