Foo Fighters have a number of shows in Europe planned for the summer, including a high-profile headlining slot at the Glastonbury Festival. However, it doesn’t look they’ll be promoting a new album with those dates. In a new interview, guitarist Chris Shiflett admitted that the band has yet to enter the studio.

“I don’t know what our plans are, but we’ll make a new album when the time is right,” he told NME. “There will be a new Foo Fighters at some point.”

Two months ago, Dave Graham, who organizes the BottleRock Festival in Napa, Calif., said that Foo Fighters’ performance at BottleRock on May 28 was likely to be their only U.S. show this year because they would be holed up in the studio for much of 2017 working on the follow-up to 2014’s Sonic Highways. However, they did share snippets of two new songs at their surprise concert at the Cheese and Grain club in Frome, England that they used to announce their Glastonbury appearance. The band publicly emerged from their hiatus in early February when they performed a couple of Tom Petty songs at the annual MusiCares Person of the Year benefit a few nights before the Grammys.

But just because we don’t know when the next Foo Fighters record will be doesn’t mean that you can’t hear new music from its members. Next month, Shiflett will release West Coast Town, which was heavily influenced by the Bakersfield country sound. And drummer Taylor Hawkins took the solo route back in November with KOTA, an EP on which he played nearly all the instruments.
