Foo Fighters’ Acropolis Concert to Air on PBS

The Foo Fighters traveled the country for their album and television series Sonic Highwaysbut fans are about to see them perform in one of the more interesting locations of their career: The Acropolis. The concert, which was filmed last month, will air on PBS beginning Nov. 10. You can watch a preview of the show above.

Performing at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus at the Acropolis in Athens, Greece, the concert was filmed for PBS’s Landmarks Live in Concert, a documentary series hosted by drummer Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It regularly captures global stars performing at historic, monumental locations around the world.

“It’s a once in a lifetime experience, and I’m glad we could share it with you tonight,” frontman Dave Grohl told the audience. The episode starring the Foo Fighters, whose latest album Concrete and Gold will be out next month, is the “arguably most anticipated,” according to organizers, who say it was one of their largest-scale productions, and took more than a year of planning with hundreds of crew members.

“We’ve done some crazy things over the last 20 years, but I think this might be the craziest thing the Foo Fighters have ever done,” Grohl added in a press release.

The episodes all feature Smith conducting one-on-one interviews with the performers while they explore the areas around the landmark. “The Acropolis hasn’t been rocked that hard in a while — maybe 2,500 hundred years, give or take. It was an amazing experience, made extra special that I could spend it with my longtime friends, the mighty Foos,” Smith said.
