Foo Fighters Tease Upcoming TV Series in New Trailer
That upcoming TV series starring the Foo Fighters not only has a name now, it also has a brief trailer. The HBO documentary series will be called ‘Sonic Highways,’ and a brief — like a mere 20 seconds — teaser clip gives fans a quick glimpse.
The show documents the making of the Foos’ next record, which is due later this year. The band is recording the album at various legendary studios across the country. Leader Dave Grohl got the idea for the show from his 2013 movie ‘Sound City,’ in which he and a bunch of his famous musician pals paid tribute to a Los Angeles studio that was home to many of rock’s greatest LPs.
“It all started with the idea of recording at different studios all over the country,” Grohl says in the voiceover for the new trailer. “Doing something to make it new. You can tie all of these people and places together with these sonic highways. This is a musical map of America.”
Reportedly, Grohl and the Foos visited studios in Chicago, Washington, D.C. and California. Guests may include Kiss‘ Paul Stanley, Heart‘s Nancy Wilson, Joe Walsh and Fugazi’s Ian MacKaye, all of whom were supposedly interviewed for the show.
Just a couple weeks ago, the Foo Fighters played a surprise concert in New Orleans with some local musicians for a segment that will air on the series, which is set to premiere around the same time the new album comes out. There’s no set release date yet, but there is this fan-shot clip from the New Orleans gig:
