Frank Ocean Plays ‘SNL,’ John Mayer In Tow
Frank Ocean, easily the most talked-about musician of the summer, was the obvious choice to open the 38th season of ‘Saturday Night Live.’ Less obvious was Ocean’s choice of lead guitarist: John Mayer, who last night guested on both ‘Thinkin Bout You’ and ‘Pyramids,’ flashing furled-brow facial expressions appropriate for riffs far more complicated than the ones he was actually playing.
Still, Ocean was as smooth as ever, and toward the end of ‘Pyramids,’ as Mayer went off on a blues-rock tangent, the singer wisely retreated to one of the vintage arcade consoles dotting the stage and busied himself at the controls.
