Following a heartfelt introduction by Zoe Saldana, Frank Ocean performed a raw and emotional rendition of ‘Thinkin Bout You’ at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards tonight (Sept. 6) alongside a stunning campfire. Unlike other artists who often feel the need to pull out all the stops, he didn't require any additional fanfare. Without the addition of back-up singers or dancers, he let the song speak for itself.

Ocean has been a prominent name in music this year in particular, and his presence was solidified with his album ‘Channel Orange,’ which was released in July via Def Jam Recordings. The album immediately shot to the top of the iTunes music charts. Click here to check out Diffuser.fm’s review of the record.

He is also scheduled to be the musical guest on the Sept. 15 premiere of ‘Saturday Night Live’ alongside host Seth MacFarlane. The episode featuring Ocean will be the beginning of the popular comedy’s 38th season.

In addition to delivering a memorable performance at the VMAs, Ocean is also up for the following awards: Best New Artist, Best Male Video and Best Direction. Among other nominees are Green Day, Coldplay, Gotye, fun., M.I.A. and Skrillex.
