Green Day No ‘Enemy’ to Animated Film Trailers

‘Free Birds’ — an animated comedy starring Owen Wilson, Woody Harrelson and Amy Poehler — tells the story of two turkeys from very different walks of life who team up in order to travel back in time to the first Thanksgiving. The trailer for the upcoming flick features Green Day’s high-energy hit, ‘Know Your Enemy.’

The catchy tune is from Green Day’s album ‘21st Century Breakdown,’ which dropped back in 2009 via Reprise Records. It achieved widespread success and was the first song to land at No. 1 on the Billboard Rock Songs, Alternative Songs and Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks charts at the same time.

In a 2009 review, NME characterized the track as “pure Kiss/Motley Crue glam.” Rolling Stone called it a “Clash-size bootboy chant.”

In addition to surfacing toward the end of the two-and-a-half minute clip (watch below), ‘Know Your Enemy’ has appeared in the trailer for 2010's ‘The Spy Next Door’ and the music video game 'Rock Band,' as well as promos for Comcast and Wimbledon. It was also used as the ‘WWE SmackDown!’ theme song.
