Based on a true story, ‘Fruitvale Station’ follows a 22-year-old Bay Area urbanite named Oscar through the shocking, life-changing last day of 2008. The film stars Michael B. Jordan, Octavia Spencer, Kevin Durand and Melonie Diaz and is slated for a July 12 release. What’s the song in the gripping trailer?

The catchy tune is the Roots’ ‘Now or Never’ from their 2010 album ‘How I Got Over,’ which landed at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 chart. The New York Times referred to the disc as “a serious deliberation on perseverance: a message for an era of recession,” and Rolling Stone called it “a slow-build mission statement on how to overcome.”

You may have seen the Roots on tour with the likes of Dave Matthews Band, Jay-Z, 311, Gym Class Heroes and Estelle, or on TV performing as the house band for ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.’ In addition to hosting the annual diverse music festival known as Roots Picnic, set to take place on June 1, they're also on the lineup for this year's Celebrate Brooklyn! fest.
