Glastonbury 2013: Rolling Stones, Mumford & Sons + Arctic Monkeys Headlining

The Rolling Stones have been confirmed as headliners for the 2013 edition of the Glastonbury festival, which is set for the weekend of June 28-30 near Pilton, U.K. The Stones will headline Saturday night, with Arctic Monkeys (Friday) and Mumford and Sons (Sunday) joining them at the top of the bill.

"It is about as big a coup as we ever thought would be possible," Glastonbury organizer Emily Eavis told the Guardian of their Stones snagging. "It is something we never thought we'd be able to pull off -- a dream booking. We've tried or talked about getting the Rolling Stones to play Glastonbury throughout my entire life – I can't remember a year it hasn't been wished upon."

The Stones, Mumfords and Monkeys are just three of more than 200 artists expected to perform at Glastonbury this year. Other acts include Phoenix, the xx, Smashing Pumpkins, Portishead, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Vampire Weekend, Primal Scream and Johnny Marr.

One of the longest-running European festivals, Glastonbury started back in 1970, when the Kinks served as inaugural headliners, and it's been running, with the occasional year skipped, since 1978. Last year was one of those off years, as organizers sat 2012 out due to the Summer Olympics in London.
