Members of Queens of the Stone Age, At the Drive-In and Mastodon have joined forces as a new supergroup dubbed Gone Is Gone, and they intend to release an EP and LP before the year’s out.

Gone Is Gone’s lineup is comprised of Mastodon singer-bassist Troy Sanders, Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen, At the Drive-In drummer Tony Hajjar and multi-instrumentalist Mike Zarin. Today (April 13), the band has shared a trailer for their experimental metal side project that previews their new song “Violescent” — check it out above.

The band will play their first show at the Dragonfly in L.A. on April 27. This summer, they will drop their debut EP followed by a 13-track full-length sometime later this year. They also plan to work on movie scores.

“The thought behind this band is to combine what most of us know from many years of being in touring/recording entities and our love of scoring,” Hajjar told Rolling Stone. “Mike and I have had the privilege of being part of some amazing movie trailer campaigns and scored the game Splinter Cell: Blacklist together as well. Our goal is to be able to do more of this within this project.”

Each band member is juggling a pretty full schedule at the moment: At the Drive-In recently launched a reunion tour, and Van Leeuwen is currently on the road with Iggy Pop and his QOTSA bandmate Josh Homme behind Post Pop Depression. Still, Sanders says the timing was right.

“We know it is now as this band was conceived a few years ago, and we have been holding onto this music far too long,” he said. “The gestation period has to end. Doctor’s orders, we must birth this band into the world now!”
