Greetings From Tim Buckley’ chronicles the struggles singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley faced living in the shadow of his famous rock star father, Tim. The film’s first official trailer has been released, and actor Penn Badgley (who plays the role of Jeff) croons a beautiful version of Tim Buckley’s ‘Once I Was’ toward the end of the clip.

The cast also features Broadway actor Norbert Leo Butz, Frank Woods from ‘Flight of the Conchords,’ British songstress Kate Nash and Anthrax bassist Frank Bello. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall and is slated for an April 16 release.

‘Once I Was’ is the title track from Tim Buckley’s 1999 compilation disc, which includes songs from various live shows, recording sessions and broadcasts. A number of other Buckley hits wound up on the record, such as ‘Sing a Song For You’ and ‘I Don’t Need It to Rain,’ along with a cover of Fred Neil’s ‘The Dolphins.’

Tim died at only 28, leaving behind a wife and two sons, including Jeff. However, his legacy lives on through such bands as Starsailor, who were greatly influenced by his music and named their band after his 1970 album.
