Philly indie-rockers Hop Along dropped their sophomore full-length, Painted Shut, today (May 4) via Saddle Creek, and along with the album comes a new music video for album track, “Powerful Man.” Watch it above.

According to frontwoman Frances Quinlan, the song tells the autobiographical story of witnessing a child being physically abused by his father, subsequent inaction and the resulting guilt. The video seemingly relays those themes and images through rapid-fire visuals created by obscured etchings and painting techniques. The clip is just as frenetic as the song itself, moving along as wildly as Quinlan’s raw, crackling vocal and the song’s major-key propulsion.

Hop Along are currently on tour, which picks up tomorrow (May 5) at Rough Trade in Brooklyn and culminates on June 7 in Toronto. Check out a complete list of dates at the bottom of the page.

Painted Shut follows the band’s 2012 debut, Get Disowned. You can pick up the new LP now over on iTunes.
