Three indie-rock giants — Iggy Pop, Nick Cave and Thurston Moore — recently got together to record a cover of a song by ’80s post-punk legends the Gun Club.

The trio got together for the Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project (named after the band’s late leader) for a take on the group’s ‘Nobody’s City,’ which the Gun Club originally recorded for 1987’s ‘Mother Juno’ album, but it didn’t surface until 2005’s reissue.

Give a listen to Pop, Cave and Moore’s cover.

The song comes from ‘Axels & Sockets,’ a tribute album to Pierce, who passed away from a brain hemorrhage in 1996. The album also features contributions from Debbie Harry, Primal Scream, Mark Lanegan and others. It comes out next week.

As the Guardian notes, this is the third record to come out of the Sessions Project, following LPs released in 2010 and 2012. Former members of the Gun Club, as well as famous fans, have appeared on the albums.

And here’s Gun Club’s original version of ‘Nobody’s City,’ if you wanna compare them.
