ABC News reports Los Angeles-based post-metal outfit Isis -- who were together from 1997 to 2010 -- have been forced to alter their social media handles due to a rash of ugly comments posted on their Facebook page.

This comes as a result of being mistaken for the terrorist organization of the same name that recently claimed responsibility for the beheading of American journalist James Foley.

"It certainly caught us off guard," said drummer Aaron Harris. "Fans have e-mailed us that they're reluctant to wear our t-shirts now and we've also gotten some off-color comments."

Harris said that's why the band has been forced to change the name of their official Facebook page from 'Isis' to 'Isis the Band.' Although the band hasn't been active together in four years, Harris said they continue to maintain their Facebook page to keep fans abreast of their latest projects like Palms, the collaboration between several members and Deftones frontman Chino Moreno.

"Just like our fans, we've been watching the news in disbelief," said Harris. "We haven't commented on it because we haven't been an active band since 2010, even though our music does live on."
