Music fans across the world are mourning the loss of influential and renowned bassist, Jack Bruce. In the ‘60s, after playing with Alexis Korner’s Blues Inc, John Mayall’s Blues Breakers and Manfred Mann, Bruce teamed up with Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker and formed the supergroup, Cream. As his official website states, the musician passed away today (Oct. 25). He was 71 years old.

“It is with great sadness that we, Jack’s family, announce the passing of our beloved Jack: husband, father, granddad, and all round legend,” the website reads. “The world of music will be a poorer place without him, but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts.”

While in Cream, Bruce co-wrote many of the band’s singles, including ‘White Room,’ ‘Sunshine of Your Love’ and ‘SWLABR.’ In addition to his bass and writing duties, Bruce also often handled vocals; on Cream’s debut, ‘Fresh Cream,’ he sang lead vocals on every track except ‘Four Until Late.’ Below, listen to 'N.S.U.,' the opening track from 'Fresh Cream':

Bruce's final musical project came in the form of his solo album, 'Silver Rails.' It was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London and released in March 2014. He wrote every song on the LP.

In a recent interview with Ultimate Classic Rock, Bruce said, "I’m more content doing the more laid-back things I’m doing, like ‘Silver Rails,’ the last album I did which I love. And then ending up in Abbey Road. And just sort of tinkering around the home. It’s not a bad life."

Bruce’s publicist spoke out and confirmed his passing, saying, “He died today at his home in Suffolk surrounded by his family.”
