Jane’s Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Tom Morello Share the Love at Lollapalooza

This year’s Lollapalooza has been somewhat of a victory lap for Perry Farrell. The festival he founded is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and Jane’s Addiction‘s set in Chicago’s Grant Park yesterday (July 30) was the final stop on their tour to honor another 25th anniversary, that of Ritual de lo Habitual. They brought some friends along to the party, with Tom Morello and Jimmy Chamberlin sitting in, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers paid tribute to Jane’s Addiction during their set.

Morello showed up for the first song of Jane’s Addiction encore, “Mountain Song,” with the Rage Against the Machine and Prophets of Rage guitarist adding his unique style to the Nothing’s Shocking tune. Meanwhile, Chamberlin, the drummer for the Smashing Pumpkins, came on for the closer, “Jane Says.” Coincidentally, both Morello and Chamberlin are natives of Chicago.

During the Chili Peppers’ headlining slot, guitarist Josh Klinghoffer performed “I Would for You,” which appeared on Jane’s Addiction’s 1987 self-titled live album, before going into “Under the Bridge.” You can see video of that cover, as well as the entirety of the Chili Peppers’ set, above. Their 18-song set drew heavily from their hits, but they also played four songs from their most recent album, The Getaway.

Last night was also the final U.S. date that the Red Hot Chili Peppers have on their calendar. Beginning Aug. 25, they will tour Europe on an itinerary that will see them on the continent, with only a few weeks off, until Nov. 21. You can see their entire schedule at their website.
